About this Course
The online version of the UTS Level 1 Power Line Design & Staking course covers the same topics as our classroom version.

In Level 1 Power Line Design and Staking, participants will gain a strong foundation necessary to help them advance in the field of line design and staking. This class will include the basic engineering of overhead single-phase lines typically expected of beginning line design personnel. After completion of this course, participants will be able to complete overhead transformer and service conductor sizing, calculate accurate guy leads for both angle and dead end situations, interpret and implement sag charts in clearance design, and will be able to maneuver through the NESC and locate important rules and tables critical for power line design. Course handbook provided. CEUs: 2.1
UTS will provide course handbook, and other miscellaneous worksheets and supplies required for this course. This course packet will be mailed to students 1 week prior to course start date. Students need to have access to their own copy of the current, 2023 National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) book.
Instructor
A UTS instructor will be assigned and available via email (and phone, by appointment), as needed, during the course access dates.
The Course Process
Course Access: Students will be allowed to log in and work at their own pace (within access dates of the course) and will be responsible for checking weekly assignments, course notes and for submitting all assignments by listed due dates.
Reading Assignments: Students will be given weekly reading assignments from UTS handbook provided in course packet, as well as supplements which may be available on the course website.
Worksheets: Students will complete exercises to demonstrate comprehension of basic engineering design concepts and calculations. Worksheets may be printed and included in the course packet and/or may be made available online.
Quizzes: Students will be given opportunity to demonstrate understanding of material from handbook, worksheets, reading supplements and NESC by completing weekly online quizzes. Quizzes will consist of T/F, multiple choice, and short answer questions.
Final Exam: Once all course assignments are complete, students will submit a request for final exam. The final exam will be taken online but will be proctored by utility/company manager or other assigned utility personnel.
Grading – Course Status: Course is a Pass/Retake and grade is a combination of weekly online assignments (quizzes, worksheets), overall participation as given opportunity, and performance on final exam.
Certificates: Students will receive a certificate of completion (mailed) upon passing the course and will be ready for the Level 2 of the Power Line Design & Staking series. (See UTS Class Calendar for 2023 Level 2 course dates – or ask about hosting one at your facility)

Deadline for registration is August 21, 2023. Registrations will be confirmed via email, but participants are not guaranteed space in the class until payment is received. Thank you!
Cancellations/No Shows/Substitutions
Registrants who cancel in writing on or before August 21, 2023 are entitled to a full refund of their registration fee. Registrants who cancel after August 21, 2023 will not receive a refund, but participant substitutions will be allowed for this event only. Registrants and no-shows who do not cancel by August 21, 2023 are responsible for the full registration.
